Using @mentions in chat and tasks

Use @mentions in Workly to notify specific team members in chat messages and task comments. When you mention someone, they receive a notification so they don’t miss important messages.

Mention someone

  1. Type @ in the message or comment input
  2. Start typing the person’s name
  3. Select the person from the dropdown suggestions
  4. Send your message

The mentioned person’s name appears highlighted in the message, and they receive a notification.

Where you can use mentions

  • Channel messages — Mention someone in a channel to get their attention
  • Direct messages — Mention someone in a group DM
  • Task comments — Mention a team member in a task’s activity section

Mention notifications

When someone mentions you, you’ll receive:

  • A desktop notification (if enabled)
  • A notification bell alert in the app
  • The channel or task will be highlighted in your sidebar

Mention-only mode

If you’re in a busy channel and want to reduce noise, enable mention-only mode in your notification preferences. You’ll only receive notifications when someone directly @mentions you, filtering out all other channel messages.
