Workspace roles and permissions

Workly uses roles to control what each person can do in a workspace. Understanding roles helps you manage access and permissions effectively.

Workspace roles

  • Owner — The person who created the workspace. Has full control over all settings, billing, and members
  • Admin — Can manage members, projects, and workspace settings. Admins are appointed by the owner
  • Member — Can participate in projects, tasks, chat, and meetings. Cannot manage workspace settings

What each role can do

Owner

  • All admin permissions
  • Delete the workspace
  • Transfer ownership
  • Manage billing and subscription

Admin

  • Invite and remove workspace members
  • Promote members to admin
  • Create and manage projects
  • Access workspace settings

Member

  • Join public projects
  • Create projects
  • Participate in assigned tasks
  • Use chat, meetings, and AI features

Project-level roles

Within each project, members can also have roles:

  • Project Owner — Created the project, full control
  • Project Admin — Can manage project settings and members
  • Project Member — Can view and work on tasks
