Stop staring at a blank task description. Workly can generate a task description with AI from just the task name — and the result is fully editable.
Generate a description
- Open any task — while creating or editing
- Make sure the task has a name (the button is disabled until you enter one — tooltip: Enter a task name first)
- In the Description section, click Generate Description
The description streams into the field in real time. You can start editing immediately.
Stop early
While generating, the button changes to Stop. Click it to cancel — anything already streamed is kept.
Edit and save
- Click into the description field to make changes
- In edit mode, the description auto-saves on blur — just click outside the field
- Treat the AI output as a starting draft and refine
Regenerate
If the result isn’t what you want, click Generate Description again. The new generation overwrites the previous text. Tweaking the task name first usually produces a better second pass.
Tips
- Use a specific, action-oriented task name — Audit Q1 churn signals is much better than Churn
- Generate first, then edit — don’t write from scratch
- Combine with Generate Subtasks to get a description and a checklist in seconds
