Talk to Workly from anywhere on your Mac. Double-tap the Command (⌘) key and a small voice panel appears — speak your request, and Workly’s AI takes care of the rest. The Workly app just needs to be running; it doesn’t need to be the active window.
Before you start
Double-tap modifier shortcuts (⌘⌘, ⌥⌥, etc.) need Accessibility permission on macOS. From Workly Settings:
Double-tap modifier hotkeys (⌥⌥, ⌘⌘, etc.) require Accessibility permission. Grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility if a hotkey doesn’t fire.
You’ll also need to allow microphone access the first time you use voice input.
Set up the shortcut
- Make sure the Workly Mac app is running
- Open Workly Settings (Cmd + ,)
- Find the Hotkeys section
- Next to Open Workly AI voice (mic), choose ⌘⌘ (Double-tap Command)
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn Workly on
- Approve the microphone prompt the first time you trigger it
Use it
- Anywhere on your Mac — even when Workly isn’t focused — double-tap the Command key
- The Workly voice panel appears with a glowing mic indicator. Recording starts automatically.
- Speak your request
- Press Esc or close the panel when you’re done
What you can ask
- “Create a task to follow up with the design team tomorrow at 3.”
- “Summarize my last meeting with marketing.”
- “What’s on my plate for today?”
Customizing the shortcut
If ⌘⌘ conflicts with another app, the dropdown also offers ⌥⌥ (Double-tap Option), ⌃⌃ (Double-tap Control), ⇧⇧ (Double-tap Shift), or a Custom… recorder for any combination.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing happens on double-tap. Confirm Workly is running and Accessibility permission is on. Restart Workly after granting permission.
- The panel opens but no audio is captured. Approve the microphone prompt or check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
- It triggers accidentally when I press ⌘ twice. Switch to a less-common preset like ⌃⌃ or set a custom shortcut.
